Central Oregon Nordic Club members combined business (some trail work) with pleasure (hiking) during an outing to the Swampy Lakes area on Sunday, Oct. 29.
An air inversion layer made it warmer up at Swampy than in town, says hiker Thom Iverson.
“A large group headed up to check out the pleasant, but not particularly photogenic, trails, with just a few patches of snow,” he reports. “Some went to the shelter and back, others circled around Flagline Tie, and three headed up for a slight detour to the top of Vista Butte. Some on-the-fly trail work was done on the many downed trees across the trail.”
He adds that a “warm, sunny and enjoyable hike was had by all.”
