Skiers, Shoers Find ‘Superb’ Snow, Vista

Several Central Oregon Nordic Club groups hit the trails Sunday, March 18, by both ski and snowshoe.

Dennis Krakow led a party of five skiers up Forest Service Road 370, then to the Water Tower Tie and Pete’s Way to Flagline trail, coming back on Big Meadow trail.

“We had a fine, beautiful uphill on Pete’s Way,” says an e-mail from Dennis. “It’s a bit of a forgotten friend. Purrfect snow.”

Carol Iverson led another group on a route that included the Water Tower trail, Todd Lake and a climb up the long slope to Bare Lake.

“Four went with superb snow conditions and sunshine,” Carol says, adding that the skiers had a “nice descent.”

Susan Sullivan led a party of three snowshoers up Vista Butte, with its views toward Mt. Bachelor.

“There were three of us that chose to snowshoe on Sunday,” Susan reports. “We had Vista Butte all to ourselves on the kind of day when this spot earns its name.”
