Obsidian Loop Wilderness Crossover Hike

Nine hikers got “a little bit of everything” on the Obsidian Loop in the Three Sisters Wilderness on Sunday, Aug. 5.

Hikers had the necessary permit for the “limited entry area,” and the group did in fact get checked for the permit. The outing was done as a “crossover” hike.

Eileen Woodward led a group of four started from the Obsidian Trailhead and Hilloah Rohr led five hikers starting from the Scott Trailhead.

“The groups met for lunch at Collier Cone,” says hiker John Fertig. “The distance was 14.25 miles with 2,800 feet of elevation gain.

“We had a little bit of everything on the hike: a few bugs, a little bit of smoke, a little bit of dust, a few small streams, some wildflowers, some butterflies, some burned forest, some ’thru hikers’ on the PCT, a lot of gorgeous views, and a lot of fun.”
