President's Corner
Mr. Snowshoe
Longtime volunteer Bob Timmer has decided to step down from coordinating CONC’s snowshoe trail maintenance, a role he has held for at least 12 years. Bob’s contributions to the club extend well beyond maintaining snowshoe trails, and we will continue to benefit from his volunteerism for years to come.
Bob spearheaded the establishment of new snowshoe trails, most recently including the Tesla Trail at Edison Sno-Park and the Porcupine Trail Bypass at Swampy Lakes. He has produced maps for CONC, such as the “One Map” showing all Nordic ski and snowshoe trails on the Cascade Lakes Highway and the “One Snowshoe Map.” Both of these maps reside on the CONC website and provide an excellent overview of the ski and snowshoe trails along the Century Drive corridor. Along with Board Member Kelley Cleman, he has delivered presentations at the Deschutes Public Library. Those presentations have proven to be popular among our members and the public. And, if you are interested in data about all aspects of snowshoe trail maintenance, snowfall history in Central Oregon, and other information relevant to the club, Bob is your man.
Bob’s presentations and his “One Snowshoe Map” acknowledge Jim Davis as “Dr. Snowshoe,” as he was the force behind establishing dedicated snowshoe trails in Central Oregon. Given Bob’s many contributions to the club and to the snowshoe trails, I would like acknowledge him as “Mr. Snowshoe.” Please join me in congratulating Bob on his “retirement” (I used quotation marks, as he continues to volunteer with CONC!).
Welcome Tom!
One of the defining characteristics of our membership is that when help is needed, someone will step up to help. A perfect example is that Tom Mossinger has volunteered to take over the coordination of snowshoe trail maintenance. In addition to routine trail maintenance, he plans to reestablish the Snowshoe Long Loop at Edison Sno-Park, which was lost to the Little Lava Fire in 2024. Tom will be working with a dedicated cadre of volunteers who maintain the snowshoe trails by removing logs, cutting back brush, and installing assurance markers and trail signs. However, new volunteers are always welcome. If you’re interested in helping on snowshoe trails or in any other volunteer capacity, be sure check that your member profile indicates that you would like to be notified about volunteer opportunities that interest you.
