X-C Downhill at Mt. Bachelor

Date: January 24

This clinic is for anyone wanting to continue to progress your skills, especially working on better ski control in the downhill mode.  Coaches will work on a progression to include: Basic Body Positioning, Step Turns, Snow Plow Wedge, Wedge Turns, Kick Turns, Edge Control, Proper Hand Position, Pole Use, and much more.  This is not a telemark clinic.  CONC is offering a telemark clinic later in the season.

We will be at Mt. Bachelor, using the lift named “Early Riser” located in the Sunrise base area.   Park at the Sunrise parking lot to meet in Sunrise lodge.  We will meet at 10AM inside Sunrise Lodge upstairs for introductions and orientation.

NOTE:  You will need to purchase a $49 ticket to use the Early Riser lift.  This is a new policy for this season; in previous years, this lift was free.  This ticket also gives us access to the Alpenglow lift right above Early Riser.  It is a longer lift with a bit more pitch but a very good beginner hill.  If folks progress and are ready, some of the skiers can bump up to that lift.  Here is a link to buy needed tickets online, please note fees may be higher if you wait to buy at mountain on day of the event: https://shop.mtbachelor.com/s/lift_tickets/single-day-tickets-2/p/learning-progression-lift-ticket

Prerequisites for this clinic are strict.  Novice to intermediate skiers with some downhill experiences are invited.  However, if you have lesser skills, the clinic will get frustrating for you and slow others down.  The following equipment is required: skis of 88-90 or wider mm in width, three pin or cable bindings and appropriate beefy boots to match, wider skis in the 100 or more-shovel range are even better. REQUIRED:  LEGITIMATE RUNAWAY STRAPS, SKI HELMET, ADJUSTABLE BACKCOUNTRY OR ALPINE POLES AND APPROPRIATE DRESS (ALPINE SKIING AND RIDING THE LIFT IS MUCH COLDER THAN A NORDIC TOUR). NNN-BC boots and bindings are not allowed unless you modify to allow for use of a ski leash (not easy to do). Pine Mountain Sports rents nice beefy backcountry skis with the new Rottefella Explore binding system and it is easy to add a leash to that system.

This clinic is limited to the first 12 members who register.  After that we will develop a waiting list and will try and find more coaches to accommodate interest.  When you register, please list the skis, bindings and boots you plan to use.

Number of students: 12

Meeting time/place: Mt Bachelor Sunrise Lodge, 10 am
