Trailwork last week was on the the Porcupine Snowshoe Trail; more specifically the Summit Bypass trail with installation of permanent junction signs. Dave Alward, Gary Evans, Kelly Eager, Kurt Keasy, Mike Bodell, Chuck DelCambre, Bill Lumbert-Silliman and Bob TImmer headed up Telemark (AKA Porcupine) Butte; shoeing through 12" of fresh snow. Temperatures were in the high 20's, wind was calm, and the sky was blue. We were joined by Brooke and Matt from Central Oregon Daily News who graciously came along to document the work of CONC's trail volunteers. We look forward to their upcoming TV segment.
This Tuesday, March 5th, we will return to the Summit Bypass trail at Swampy to see how the trimming and related work held up with the new accumulation. A few places along the trail were fairly narrow, making passage more difficult. This will be a time to look at options to make the trail more sustainable through the winter season. We will not go beyond the Summit Bypass and likely be back to the sno-park by noonish.
