Snowshoe Trail Implementation
Tuesday September 3
7:30 to 3ish

On a very hot day in July,  the new Vista Butte Snowshoe Trail was cleared nearly to the summit; thank you CONC Volunteers!. With cooler temperatures and clear air, we will head back on Tuesday, September 3rd to continue with the implementation. The next septs include:

  • Logout of the last 1/8th mile. The current fire restriction (IFPL III) prohibits use of chainsaws, so we will be using crosscut and Katanaboys. Fortunately the trees aren't that large and it is only 7/8th of a mile, and 600' of elevation,  to where clearing stopped in July.
  • Mark trees for installation of reassurance markers
  • Install reassurance markers and trailhead signs
  • Trim for marker visibility

Depending on the number of volunteers, we will tackle as many of these as possible.

 Plans

  • Tuesday September 3rd (NOAA Forecast)
    • Sunny, with a high near 66.....perfect!
  • Meet at Forest Service Cascade Lakes Welcome Station at 7:30 AM
    • I will park (Blue Toyota 4Runner) on the north side of the lot - furthest from the building.
    • Group up and drive to Vista Butte sno-park.
    • Boots, Long-sleeve shirts, glasses and hard hats as we will be hiking across blowdown. I will have a couple of extra hard hats
    • Crosscut and katanaboy if you have one. We will select what we need when we divide up.
    • I will have two pole saws, ladder, hammer, markers, etc.
    • Expect to return to town around 3PM

Please either sign-up here or email me at bobtimmer@yahoo.com to  let me know if you are if you are interested in helping.

Questions, email me or give me a call at 903-477-2168

I will be offline from today at noon until this Sunday (9/1) PM....so don't expect an immediate reply. Upon my return, I will check the weather and smoke and contact registrants should conditions change and we will need to reschedule.

Thanks for your support of the trails!!
