This week we are tackling a long-overdue project. When Kapka Sno-Park was built, a connector trail was established so skiers could get to the Vista Butte trails; part of it was cleared but never marked, and since then it has been made impassible by downed trees and saplings. The work will be mostly lopping and limbing, though we may tackle the downed logs if a Certified Sawyer signs up. The section we are working on is short (0.2 mile) and close to the trailhead. I expect we’ll be done by early afternoon. If you are new to trail volunteering this is a good project to expose you to all the different aspects of trail maintenance.
Weather is expected to be sunny with a high in the mid 70s.
What to bring: gloves, long sleeved shirt, water, snack/lunch and proper footwear (no tennis shoes or sandals). Hard hats are required and can be provided if you don’t have one. Bring a hand saw if you have one.
Carpooling: We’ll meet at the Cascade Lakes Welcome Center for carpooling to Swampy Lakes Sno-Park.
