This week we’ll continue doing trail surveys, and cover the winter trails at Newberry National Monument. If we get enough folks, we’ll cover both the Paulina View trail and the Ponderosa Rim Trail, and do it as a shuttle.
The markers on these trails were updated not long ago, so this will mainly be about checking for downed logs, with some brushing and limbing along the way. We won’t be hauling ladders.
Please note that we’ll be meeting at the WalMart parking lot at the south end of Bend. Also note that we’re meeting a bit later now that the days are getting cooler. Weather is expected to be mostly sunny on Wednesday with a high around 67.
What to bring: gloves, long sleeved shirt, eye protection, water, snack/lunch and proper footwear (no tennis shoes or sandals). Hard hats are required and can be provided if you don’t have one. Bring a hand saw if you have one.
Carpooling: We’ll meet at the Cascade Lakes Welcome Center for carpooling.
Contact person: Sue Sullivan
A footnote: We’re starting to build a pretty good list of blowdown that needs to be cleared with chainsaws, and the restriction on chainsaw use has just been lifted. I am contacting sawyers directly to organize chainsaw work - I won’t be posting this work as public events. We’ll need swampers to assist sawyers with moving logs once they’re cut, so let me know if you are interested in being on the list to help with this work.
