This is our last Sunday Show & Go hike of the season. We will return in the spring! Prior to that, please be sure to sign up to receive hiking activity emails in your profile. Come spring, we will only be sending out notifications to those who have signed up for those notifications. If you need help getting this set up, please email Kelly Cleman (masterhiker@gmail.com) for assistance.
Description: We will start out on the plateau, then drop down into the beautiful Whychus Canyon and walk along Whychus Creek until we climb back out and complete the loop hike along part of the Santiam Wagon Road.
Distance: 4.9 miles round trip. Plan on spending 4-5 hours including drive time to/from the trailhead.
Elevation gain/loss: 300 feet of gain/loss overall
What to bring: Ten essentials, water, snack/lunch, and proper footwear (no tennis shoes or sandals). Dogs are not allowed on this hike.
Difficulty level: Moderate due to steep descent into canyon at the beginning of the hike; otherwise the rest of the trail is easy.
Number of hikers: Sign up is not required for this hike.
Carpooling: Carpooling can be arranged at the meeting place. If you ride with someone, please donate to their gas fund. Distance from Thump to the trailhead is 25 miles, mostly paved. There is about 1.5 miles of well-graded gravel road at the end. NB: there is a porta-potty at the trailhead.
Meeting place: The Grove in NW Crossing: 921 NW Mount Washington Drive, Bend. We'll grab a table in the general seating area, near Thump. Come early to grab a coffee and chat with others before we arrange carpools. Be prepared to leave by 9:00 am sharp!
