When: Depart for Swampy Sno-Park at 9:30 am, ski at 10:00 am. Remember that we "fall back" one hour on Sunday!

Where we'll ski: Swampy Loop at Swampy Sno-Park.

Meeting time/place: The Grove in Northwest Crossing: 921 NW Mount Washington Drive, Bend. We'll grab a table in the general seating area, near Thump. Come early to grab a coffee and chat with others before we arrange carpools. Be prepared to leave by 9:30 am sharp! If you would like to meet at the trailhead, contact the organizer once you register. Note that as of Friday afternoon, November 1st, Swampy Sno-Park had not been plowed. That may change by Sunday, high-clearance, 4WD vehicles are recommended for drivers. Sno-Park passes required.

Distance/hours: Ski 3+/- hours up to 4 miles, depending on whether we need to break trail and what the group wants to do.

Brief Trail Description: This is an intermediate tour. The terrain is mostly rolling, but trail breaking may be required. As of Friday afternoon, there was about 16" of snow at the parking lot and 2' by the shelter. We will ski the west Swampy Loop to the Swampy shelter for snacks/lunch. Then, decide whether to complete the full loop, shorten, or extend the trip.

What to bring:

Ten Essentials.

Proper winter clothing for insulation and protection from wind and rain. Dress in layers. No cotton!

Water, snack/lunch.

Ski Equipment: Skis should be designed for backcountry use, and be adequate for the type of trip and terrain likely to be encountered. In general, skis should have a no-wax pattern for grip and metal edges for control on ice or hard pack conditions. Minimum width of the ski should be at least 65mm. Wider skis will provide better stability in more difficult conditions, especially if trail breaking is required.

Boots should be over the ankle for support and control, and compatible with the bindings on the skis.

Poles should have large baskets so they don’t sink up the handle in soft snow. Adjustable poles give you flexibility based on conditions or terrain.

Skis, boots and poles designed exclusively for skiing on machine groomed tracks are not recommended.

Number of skiers: 8
