Let's take advantage of the nice weather we've been having and go on a hike. We know it's last minute notice!
This is a gently ascending walk up a beautiful canyon on the edge of the Oregon Badlands which is seasonally closed for several months a year for bird nesting.
Distance: 4.8 miles round trip. Plan on spending 5-6 hours including drive time to/from the trailhead.
Elevation gain/loss: 575 feet of gain overall
What to bring: Winter 10 Essentials, water, snack/lunch, and proper footwear (no tennis shoes or sandals). Additionally, traction devices (Yaktraks or Microspikes) and hiking poles are recommended. Dogs on leash are allowed on this hike.
Difficulty level: Moderate. There may be some lingering ice on the trail. Terrain is uneven and rocky in some places. There is one steep section of trail where hiking poles are helpful.
Number of hikers: Sign up is not required for this hike.
Carpooling: Carpooling can be arranged at the meeting place. If you ride with someone, please donate to their gas fund. Be generous for obvious reasons.
Meeting place: Barnes & Noble, 2690 NE Hwy 20. Meet in the coffee shop. Come early to grab a coffee and chat with others before we arrange carpools. Be prepared to leave by 10:00 am sharp!.
