 Meissner Shelter Ski

Come join us Thursday, March 13 for the Tangent Loop adventure at Virginia Meissner Sno-Park.  Pre-meeting at The Grove Market Hall around Thump Coffee, arrange carpools if possible, then up the hill for the ski, drinks, and your lunch at the main cabin when we finish.

Trail Highlights: Approximately 6 miles of skiing and 600 feet of vertical climbing on groomed trails with classic grooves on most parts of the trails.  This is a classic ski morning and we will be skiing the Tangent Loop in a clockwise direction.  The first two miles will be mostly uphill and we will stop along the way for everyone to catch up.  Then the thrilling downhill of Tangent Loop awaits with some rolling trails along Snowbush before we head up Manzanita for a short drink stop at the Meissner Shelter.  Finally, down the hill and back to the Sno-park main cabin for lunch before we head back to Bend.

Level of Difficulty, Distance, and Time.  "Advanced" Beginner to Intermediate due to the distance and the downhill on Tangent Loop. Approximately 6 miles or 10K total distance.  Approximately three hours once we start skiing. We will meet at 8:30 for a half hour of introduction, then drive to the Sno-Park, gear up, ski, drink, and enjoy lunch before heading back. Total skiing time will be about three hours.  Expect to be back in Bend by 2:00.

When: Thursday, March 13.

Where: Virginia Meissner Sno-Park

Meeting Place/Time:  The Grove Market Hall, 921 Mt. Washington Drive, Bend.  Find our group dressed in nordic gear somewhere near the Thump coffee outlet.  (This is not the main Thump store overlooking the high school field).  We will meet at 8:30 and discuss the trip before heading up to the Sno-Park at 9:00.  Please arrange carpools, if possible, when we meet.

What to Bring: At least one liter of liquid for hydration, trail snacks, lunch. Clothing layers including a shell jacket if snow is expected.  We expect to keep moving so all group members stay warm.  Check the weather the day before and prepare your clothing and layers for the worst weather scenario.

Ski Equipment: Nordic classic skis made for groomed tracks and groomed surfaces.  Your skis should not exceed 68mm if you expect to be skiing in the grooves.  Skate skiers will be on-course so we should not ski up the middle of the skate lane.

Number of Skiers: Limited to 8.  Please join the waiting list if you miss the first 8 slots.  We will try to find another leader if we have enough people.

Reservation Contact: Eric Ness will lead this tour.  Steve Sangster is our newest guide that will assist Eric organizing and skiing the trip.
