Description: We will snowshoe the Ponderosa Rim Trail to Paulina Falls and Paulina Lake (elevation gain is 760 ft). Depending on conditions, we may return via the Paulina View Trail. There should be lots of fresh snow!
Please be aware that bad weather conditions can alter or even cancel trips. Also note that the difficulty of any trail can change based on current conditions such as recent snowfall and may necessitate changes to the route. Please be on the lookout for emails from the trip leader regarding the trip.
Distance/hours: Trip is 6 miles RT (7 miles if we return on Paulina View Trail). Plan on spending 5 hours, including drive time to/from trailhead.
Elevation gain/loss: Approximately 760 ft elevation gain.
Difficulty Level: Moderate due to the elevation gain and distance. Significant snow is expected in the days beforehand, so there is potential for having to break trail through fresh snow. All participants will take turns breaking trail, if needed.
What to bring: Winter 10 Essentials, water, snack/lunch. Dogs are not allowed on this trip.
Required Equipment: Snowshoes and over-the-ankle waterproof boots. Gaiters or waterproof pants are recommended. Hiking poles with large baskets for stability can be helpful.
Number of participants: 9 participants including the trip leader. Sign up is required.
Meet Up Location Information: Meet at 9 am in parking lot of the Riverwoods Country Store on Baker Road, right off Hwy 97 (Baker Rd/Knott Rd Exit) on the far south side of Bend. We can carpool from there. Trip leader will be driving a brown Ford truck.
Carpooling: Carpooling can be arranged at the meeting place. If you ride with someone, please donate to their gas fund.
