Bare Lake

This is an advanced intermediate ungroomed cross country trail through the forest.

Trail Highlights: The trail follows the Todd Lake trail initially, then veers off up a steep hill (250' climb) to Bare Lake.

The descent from Bare Lake down to Todd Lake requires strong downhill skills.  Skins (full or kicker) are recommended for the climb uphill.

Level of Difficulty and Distance/Time expected:

This is an intermediate ski to Todd Lake, then an advance ski up and down from Bare Lake. The down slope goes through the trees. Snow during the day is likely . Expected ski time is 4 hours.

When: Friday February 7th.

Where: We will start at the Nordic Center and ski down on the Todd Lake trail.  Climb up to Bare Lake off trail (see below).  Return on Watertower trail to the Nordic Center.

Bring your GPS; Chuck is glad to help you with it!.  Here is a route map, but we may modify it to try to find a less steep route up to Bare Lake. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/49614374

Meeting place/time: Meet Chuck DeVoe at 10:00 at the Grove.  Carpools will then be arranged.  Leave The Grove at 10:30

What to bring:

  • Proper winter clothing for insulation and protection from wind and rain. Dress in layers. No cotton!

  • Glide wax, extra phone battery.

  • Water, snack/lunch. Snacks and lunch are often eaten outside. Bring food that can be easily eaten quickly in case it is cold.

  • No dogs on this trip.

Ski Equipment: Cross country nordic skis and poles suitable for off track skiing. We will likely have the opportunity to break trail through fresh snow.

In general, skis should have a no-wax pattern for grip and metal edges.  Bring your skins.  78mm or wider skis will provide better stability for the new snow.

Number of skiers: 10 skiers
