The work this week will continue our efforts to improve marker visibility, with an added bonus of putting up new junction signs at Junction 68 (the intersection of Flagline and Flagline Tie).

We’ll start from Vista Butte Sno-Park and ski to Flagline Tie, then north to Junction 68. We’ll work uphill on Flagline from there to the spot where Flagline crosses the snowmobile road. Depending on snow conditions we’ll either return to Vista Butte Sno-Park off-trail,  or else retrace our uphill route. The total maintenance effort will be on a little over a mile of the Flagline trail.

We’ll bring a couple of pole saws, hand saws, markers, a drill, plus the new signs, backing boards and miscellaneous tools. Bring a pack that’s large enough to carry tools and supplies.

I’m not gonna lie, this could be a trail breaking epic. Snow is supposed to ease up Monday, and a couple of days of settling might make it really nice if we’re lucky. Please look for updates to the plan based on weather.

This is an intermediate to advanced ski. I’d recommend bringing wider, floatier skis. The round trip distance will be about 6 miles.  There’s a chance of snow on Wednesday, with a high in the mid 30s.

What to bring: Winter Ten essentials, Extra gloves (since they’re likely to get wet), water, snack/lunch. Hard hats are required for this work; let me know if you need one.   Bring a hand saw if you have one.

Carpooling: We’ll meet in the parking lot  at Bend Parks and Rec at 9:00 AM to sort out carpooling. Let me know if you plan to meet us at the Vista Butte Sno-Park instead.
