Description: Snowshoe from the Potato Hill Snopark (approx. 4 miles west of Santiam Pass, 24 miles from Sisters) up the Jack Pine Trail to Potato Hill. This route has great views of the mountains, weather permitting. The current forecast for Monday is mostly clear skies and spring-like conditions.
Distance/hours: Trip is just over 4 miles round trip, with significant elevation gain on the way out. Plan on spending 5 hours, including drive time to/from trailhead.
Elevation gain/loss: Approximately 900 ft elevation gain.
Difficulty Level: Moderate due to the elevation gain. It is possible, but unlikely, that we will need to break trail on the way up.
What to bring: Winter 10 Essentials, water, snack/lunch. Dogs are not allowed on this trip.
Required Equipment: Snowshoes, over-the-ankle waterproof boots, gaiters or waterproof pants. Hiking poles with large baskets are optional, but helpful for stability.
Number of participants: 9 participants including the trip leader. Sign up is required.
Meet Up Location Information: Village Green Park in Sisters. Meet up next to the toilets (along S Fir St). Trip leader will be driving a brown Ford truck.
Carpooling: Carpooling can be arranged at the meeting place. If you ride with someone, please donate to their gas fund.
