Meissner Shooting Star Ski

Come join us for the Meissner Part 2 Classic Tour.  This is a continuation of our trip from March 13.  Our mission is to find the Shooting Star Shelter. This will be a classic ski for intermediate to advanced skiers due to the elevation gain and length of this 9.5 mile trip.  The pre-meeting for this trip will be at the Meissner main lodge to save some time.  I'll describe the rest of the trip below.

Trail Highlights: Approximately 9.5 miles of classic skiing and about 800 vertical feet of uphill climbing on groomed trails and a classic track.  We are hoping for a big break in the weather on Tuesday to spice things up.  We will ski counterclockwise up Tangent Loop to Fiver junction then on Paintbrush to the Paintbrush Loop trail.  A drink stop and light bite at the Shooting Star Shelter then reverse back to the snowpark for a quick debrief and lunch at the main lodge. I value your comments at the end.

Level of Difficulty , Distance, and Time:   Intermediate to advanced due to the length of the trip and the total vertical feet.  We will be moving as a group so expect multiple short drink stops along the way to keep it fun.  I estimate approximately 9.5 miles and 800 total vertical feet of climbing.  Our downhills will turn into uphills on the way back.  I expect to begin skiing around 9:00 and we should be back at the main lodge by 13:00 or sooner.  Everyone should be back in Bend by 14:00 if we keep it moving.

When: Tuesday, March 25.  08:30

Where: Virginia Meissner Sno-Park

Meeting Place/Time:  Main Lodge, Virginia Meissner Sno-Park

What to Bring: At least one to two liters of liquid for hydration, trail snacks, and lunch.  Clothing layers including a shell jacket if snow or wind is expected. We expect to keep moving so all group members stay warm.  Check the weather the day before and prepare your clothing layers for the worst weather scenario.  Bring some additional wax for your skis in case we experience warming snow and clumping slows us down.  (Maxiglide solves the problem.)

Ski Equipment: Nordic classic skis made for groomed tracks and groomed surfaces.  Your skies should not exceed 68mm if you expect to be skiing in the grooves.  Skate skiers will be on-course so we may not ski up the middle of the skate lane.

Number of skiers: Limited to 10 including myself.
