Three Creeks Adventure
Come join us on the Three Creeks Adventure just south of Sisters. We will meet-up at Sisters Coffee then head up the hill to Upper Three Creeks Sno-Park and ski into the nordic trail system from one of two ways, depending on snow conditions. This will be an advanced trip using backcountry nordic skis and rolling through about 1,200 feet of climbing and covering 7-9 miles. We are hoping to get our famed biologist, John Stephenson, to narrate some of the backcountry biology of this regenerating forest. He also knows some of the spur trails I have not been on.
Trail Highlights: If it is clear, the most amazing views on the east side of the Cascades. Humbled by views of Tam McArthur Rim, bits of Broken Top, South, Middle, and North Sisters as well as views toward the east and north. This is the place to be on a clear day. The trail up is mild to strenuous based snow conditions. The Jefferson View Shelter is another amazing place we will stop for a rest before gliding back to the Sno-Park. The distance is variable due to the possibility of checking out some additional spur trails. It will depend on how our group is working together. Debrief at "The Barn In Sisters" when we get down the hill.
Level of Difficulty Distance, and Time: Not easy. Strong intermediate and advanced for this one. We will be skiing 7-9 miles and we will be on skis for at least 4-5 hours. We expect at least 1,200 feet of climbing.
When: Wednesday, March 26. 08:30
Where: Upper Three Creeks Sno-Park
Meeting Place: Sisters Coffee, we hope to get the big table for our intros. Sisters. 08:30 Try to be there early. Please arrange carpools with other group members ahead of time if possible. We head up the hill at 09:00.
What to Bring: At least one to two liters of liquid for hydration, trail snacks, and lunch. Clothing layers including a shell jacket, gaiters, water resistant pants, for changing weather conditions. We expect to keep moving so all group members stay warm. Check the weather the day before and prepare your clothing and layers for the worst weather scenario.
10 Essentials: Add some glide wax to your standard kit. And don't forget sunglasses and sunscreen as it is supposed to be mostly sunny with a high of 55 degrees.
Ski Equipment: Nordic classic backcountry skis with steel edges. If you have easy or micro skins they will be helpful in some places but not required. I will either be on my new skis or steel edged rentals from Pine Mountain if they are not ready.
Number of Skiers: Limited to 10 including myself. With John and my spouse Connie, there should be space for seven others to join us on this amazing trek.
