We are planning to work with the Portland Chapter of the Oregon Nordic Club to do some maintenance on the winter trail system near Walton Lake in the Ochocos. The plan is to do some brushing, limbing and marker installation, and possibly some logout.

Work on the trails is expected to take place July 9, 10 and 11; the work session on Wednesday won’t start until the afternoon, and Friday will also be a shorter day, in consideration of travel time. If you aren’t available all three days, it’s possible to come for part of the time.

The group site at Walton Lake Campground has been reserved for camping for the night of July 9; if you wish to stay the night of July 10 there is first come first served camping, as well as dispersed camping nearby.

This is a beautiful area in the summer; last year we were treated to lots of wildflowers as well as nice views.

People will be expected to arrange their own carpooling to Walton Lake. As usual, long sleeves, hard hats, eye protection, gloves and sturdy boots are required for trail maintenance. Tools will be provided.

Ken Wenzel from the Portland chapter is the contact person. Email him at skiwenzel@Hotmail.com if you have questions.
