Description: This hike follows a now-dry ancient river that once flowed through this stunning canyon. The canyon, which closes annually for wildlife considerations, is back open, so let's enjoy a fall day admiring the canyon walls and seeing what bird nests we can see.
Distance: 6.4 miles roundtrip. Plan on spending 5-6 hours including drive time to/from trailhead.
Elevation gain/loss: 547 ft of gain.
Difficulty level: Moderate, mostly due to footing on trail. There is one steep up and down section.
What to bring: Summer Ten Essentials, water, snack/lunch and proper footwear (no tennis shoes or sandals). Dogs are not allowed on this hike.
Number of participants: 10 participants total.
Carpooling: Carpooling can be arranged at the meeting place. If you ride with someone, please donate to their gas fund. Be generous for obvious reasons.
Meeting place: The Grove in NW Crossing: 921 NW Mount Washington Drive, Bend. We'll grab a table in the general seating area, near Thump. Come early to grab a coffee and chat with others before we arrange carpools. Be prepared to leave by 8:00 am sharp!
