Description: Alas, the snow is thin (6" at the 3-Ck Snotel on 12/27), but there is cold, clear weather ahead. And the moonlight views on a winter night along this trail are lovely. The moon won't quite be full, but close and higher in the sky. Probably don't need snowshoes for this one. Waterproof boots with yaktraxs or similar traction device would be perfect.
Please be aware that bad weather conditions can alter or even cancel trips. Also note that the difficulty of any trail can change based on current conditions such as recent snowfall and may necessitate changes to the route. Please be on the lookout for emails from the trip leader regarding the trip.
Distance/hours: Trip is 3.5-4 miles RT. Plan on spending 5 hours, including drive time to/from trailhead. If there's interest and conditions are good, we may take an alternative route back from the Shelter, that would require some trail breaking.
Elevation gain/loss: Approximately 600 ft elevation gain.
Difficulty Level: Moderate due to the elevation gain but it is not a difficult trek.
What to bring: Winter 10 Essentials, water, snack/lunch. Dogs are not allowed on this trip.
Required Equipment: HEADLAMPS! Be sure to fully charge or replace with fresh batteries, depending on the type of headlamp. Spare batteries and a backup flashlight are recommended. Waterproof, over-the-ankle boots are essential, as is warm clothing. Yaktrak-like traction devices that fit over the sole of your boots would work well in these snow conditions. Snowshoes are also okay. Hiking poles are recommended but not essential.
Number of participants: 10 participants including the trip leader. Sign up is required.
Meet Up Location: Village Green Park in Sisters. Meet up next to the bathrooms on S. Fir St. Trip leader will be driving a brown Ford truck.
Carpooling: Carpooling can be arranged at the meeting place. If you ride with someone, please donate to their gas fund.
