Welcome to the kickoff of trail maintenance for the summer season! June 6 is also National Trails day, and as our contribution to trails for the day we will be repainting and repairing the signboards at the trailheads.
The boards will be lowered so most of the work can be done from the ground, though ladders will be used for the top sections. The work involves scraping off peeling paint with wire brushes and scrapers, then applying new paint with brushes and rollers.
Also, if conditions are not suitable for painting (for example, if it rains the day before and the boards are not dry enough to paint) we will have an alternate plan to do some trail maintenance in the Dutchman area. This will involve light brushing, and some limbing and marker installation.
What to bring: Please ensure you have the following required PPE: - Long pants and long-sleeved shirts - Boots - Work gloves - Hard hats (Please let me know if you need one provided for you) Since painting can be messy, we will provide rubber gloves, but please wear clothing that you do not mind getting splattered.
Carpooling: Meet at the Cascade Lakes Welcome Center at 8:30 AM to sort out carpooling. If weather predictions are for a hot day, we may change the start time to 8:00.
Contact me if you want to meet us at the Dutchman Sno-Park instead.
