A nice loop trip in the Newberry Caldera around Paulina Lake. Optional stop at Paulina Lake Lodge after the hike for refreshments.
Distance: 7.5 miles loop. Plan on spending 6-7 hours including drive time to/from the trailhead.
Elevation gain/loss: 300 feet of gain
What to bring: Ten essentials, water, snack/lunch, and proper footwear (no tennis shoes or sandals). National Parks pass required if driving. Be prepared for ticks and mosquitos. Dogs are not allowed on this hike.
Difficulty level: Moderate.
Number of hikers: 9 hikers including the hike leader. Registration is required.
Carpooling: Carpooling can be arranged at the meeting place. If you ride with someone, please donate to their gas fund.
Meeting place: The Grove in NW Crossing: 921 NW Mount Washington Drive, Bend. We'll grab a table in the general seating area, near Thump. Come early to grab a coffee and chat with others before we arrange carpools. Be prepared to leave by 8:00 am sharp! Hikers coming from LaPine, Sunriver or the eastside of Bend can meet at the park-and-ride lot at the Paulina-East Lake Road (USFS 21) intersection with Highway 97 at 8:45 AM. The parking area is on the northeast corner of the intersection. Please let the leader know if you will be meeting the group at this location.
