This is a hike that’s aimed at newer Club members, so notice is going out to those folks first. If you’re an old-timer, we’re asking that you wait to register until August 2 or later. Thanks!

We’ll be starting from the West Village parking area at Mt Bachelor and hiking up the Evergreen trail to the Pine Marten Lodge. The trail is good footing with a relatively easy grade (meaning a lot of switchbacks!), gaining about 1400 feet to the lodge.

We’ll be starting the hike about an hour before the lifts open at Bachelor, so there should be little to no bike traffic on the trail. People have the choice of either bringing lunch, or purchasing lunch or beverages at the Pine Marten Lodge before we take the chairlift down. Riding the chairlift down is free!

There’s an option to add another 1.2 miles and 500 feet of elevation by also going up to the top of the old rope tow at ~8200 ft, above Pine Marten Lodge. We’ll try to arrange carpools so that those who want to take this option don’t delay the return of those who want to just head back.

Distance: 4.5 miles total, all uphill! (Plus an option to add 1.2 miles) Plan on spending 5-6 hours including drive time to/from the trailhead.

Elevation gain/loss: 1400 feet gain to the lodge, and an additional 500 feet if you choose to go up to the top of the old rope tow.

What to bring: Ten essentials, water, snack/lunch (or you can purchase lunch at the lodge), and proper footwear (no sandals).  Dogs are not allowed on this hike.

Difficulty level: Moderately easy

Number of hikers: 16

Carpooling: Carpooling can be arranged at the meeting place. If you ride with someone, please donate to their gas fund.

Meeting place: We’ll near Thump Coffee in the Grove and plan to leave promptly at 8:30, so please arrive early enough to sign up and participate in carpool arrangements. If you plan to meet us at West Village instead, please let me know.
