Well, this is it - the first field work to be done to prepare for the construction of the new Edison Shelter!
In order to be able to get equipment in to the new shelter site, we have to clear the road that accesses the site. This involves clearing both sides of about a mile of a primitive forest service road to give wide enough access for larger trucks. We’ll have sawyers with chainsaws doing the cutting, and those assisting will be moving logs and brush out of the cleared area. It could be a fair amount of lifting and pulling, so please assess your capability for this work before signing up.
There’s a possibility we’ll add an additional sawyer or two depending on an assessment we’ll do Monday of the amount of work to be done…. So if the sign-up is full, please add your name to the waiting list, as we’ll need more swampers to help additional sawyers.
Chainsaw use is restricted due to fire concerns, and we must stop cutting by 1 PM - so note the start time! It’s earlier than usual so we can get done with cutting by 1:00.
I’ll be in contact with registrants on Tuesday to confirm details of the plan.
What to bring: please ensure you have the following required PPE:
- hard hat (let me know if you need one)
- Sturdy footwear
- Long sleeved shirt and long pants
- Eye protection
- Bring hearing protection if you have it; we’ll have some available.
- a pack big enough to haul some extra tools and supplies.
Carpooling: Meet at the Cascade Lakes Welcome Center at 8:15 to sort out carpooling. Contact me if you want to meet us at the Edison Sno-Park instead.
