We are preparing the site of the new Edison Shelter for construction activities in the spring. This week we’ll focus hand piling the woody debris from hazard trees that were felled at the new Edison Shelter site. I plan to have a sawyer on site to cut any pieces that are larger than people want to carry. The work involves picking up limbs and chunks of wood, carrying it about 100 feet and placing on a pile. We accomplished a significant portion of the work over the last two weeks. I’m hoping to complete the piling this week.
The terrain is flat and free of brush but there is a fair number of rocks. The walk into the site is .5 – 1 mile with a gradual climb (there is a road to the site but it requires a high clearance 4x4).
The work involves bending, lifting and pulling, so please assess your capability for this work before signing up.
The more people that we have the shorter the day will be but we will quit when people get tired.
What to bring: please ensure you have the following required PPE:
- hard hat (let me know if you need one)
- sturdy gloves
- sturdy footwear
- long sleeved shirt and long pants
- eye protection
- bring hearing protection if you have it; we’ll have some available.
- a pack big enough to haul some extra tools and supplies.
Carpooling: Meet at the Cascade Lakes Welcome Center at 8:30 to sort out carpooling. Contact me if you want to meet us at the Edison Sno-Park instead.
